Kamala Devam, Elena Catalano

This one-off evening presents two exceptional artists.

Kamala and Elena’s performances showcase their expertise as leading classical Indian dance artists in the UK. For more than a decade, Kamala has been dancing with some of the most celebrated contemporary South Asian dance makers in the UK.

With over 30 years of experience in Bharatanatyam, she’s known for her technical proficiency and strength onstage. Kamala will present several works that champion diversity across the classical form, moving the audience both through her dramatic interpretation of poetry and athletic prowess in choreography.

Elena will present classical Odissi repertoire with sensual pieces that emphasize the rhythmic complexity and abstract qualities of the form. Renowned for the strength and grace of her technique, Elena visualizes music and emotion to directly evoke images and sensations. As a distinguished dancer and a scholar, Elena will present dance that demonstrates her evident understanding of Odissi aesthetics and cultural symbolism.
