EFG London Jazz Festival 2013: Tigran Hamasyan
The capital's biggest pan-city music festival takes place this year from Friday 15 to Sunday 24 November. The Festival has long been acclaimed for delivering world-class artists and emerging stars. The Festival continues to take jazz to a massive audience, in one of the UK’s landmark music celebrations.
Serious, the producer of the London Jazz Festival, is delighted to announce the first wave of concerts in the EFG London Jazz Festival, giving an early glimpse of a very special 21st birthday programme, with plenty more outstanding acts, initiatives and learning and participation programme still to announce.
"one of the best jazz festivals in the world" The Guardian
Award-winning Armenian pianist Tigran Hamasyan is surely today's most feted young jazz pianist, with fans including Herbie Hancock and Brad Mehldau. Astonishingly virtuosic and sensitive, his playing infuses traditional Armenian folk melodies with a dazzling jazz sensibility and refined melodies.
'Wistful and mystical... gentle folk melodies with dazzling instrumental variations' (The Guardian)
'Hamasyan stands out because he has something important and urgent to say' (The Daily Telegraph)
'... music unlike anything else you'll hear this year' (The Times).
