London Lit Festival 13: Art And Fame - What Celebrity Does To Identity: Gavin Turk, Jarvis Cocker
The artist Gavin Turk has had a lifelong interest in the cult of personality and the construction of artistic myth. A major new book assembled under his direction showcases more than two decades of extraordinary sculptures, paintings, prints and installation pieces.
Jarvis Cocker is widely regarded as one of the most original and memorable lyricists and performers of the last three decades.
Both of these people are famous. But what does that really mean, and how do reputations develop and change over time? How do you keep hold of who you really are and continue to make fresh and original art and music? Miranda Sawyer asks some hardcore questions.
A thoughtful and probing artist from London whose work has been prominently exhibited worldwide.

Jarvis Cocker was at the heart of the 90s Britpop scene as frontman of Pulp, who released four albums during the decade, most notably 'His 'n' Hers' and 'Different Classes'. One of the 'common people', Jarvis' wry observations on sex, drugs and love and the famous stage invasion during Michael Jackson's performance at the 1996 Brit Awards has safely assured his place in pop's hall of fame.
Beyond Pulp, he has directed music videos for Aphex Twin and Nightmares On Wax, and performed under the name Darren Spooner. He released two solo albums for the Rough Trade label. released a book of Pulp lyrics called 'Mother, Brother, Lover', recorded and performed with pianist Chilly Gonzales and for several years was the soundtrack to Sunday afternoons on BBC 6Music.
