International Piano Series

Benjamin Grosvenor enchanted audiences when he won the piano final of BBC Young Musician of the Year.

It was 2004 and he was just 11 years old.

Now the young British pianist has built an international career, celebrated as 'a genuine talent of the old school' (The Telegraph).

He opens this recital with the delicate, ebullient French Suite No.5 by Bach. This is followed by a cocktail of Brahms' last set of piano pieces, interspersed with a contemporary tribute to them: Brett Dean's interludes Hommage à Brahms.

The second half consists of a rare arrangement of Debussy's sensual orchestral tone-poem Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune.

It precedes Alban Berg's opulent Sonata Op.1 and Ravel's set of poetry-inspired, pictorial pieces, the dazzling, ferociously virtuosic Gaspard de la nuit.

Repertoire:
JS Bach: French Suite No.5 in G, BWV.816
Brahms: 4 Pieces, Op.119
Brett Dean: Hommage à Brahms
Interval
Debussy: Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune arr. Leonard Borwick/George Copeland
Berg: Sonata, Op.1
Ravel: Gaspard de la nuit
