Shelter From The Storm Fundraiser: Graham Coxon
Shelter from The Storm and Downstairs at Mother present an evening of exquisite music, featuring a 30 minute solo acoustic set from one of Britain's best loved songwriters, Graham Coxon.
Shelter From The Storm provides shelter, food and support to 36 guests every night 365 days per year, is run entirely by volunteers and through donations. In todays climate of cuts affecting the most vulnerable in society more and more people are finding themselves without a roof over their heads through no fault of their own.
Shelter From The Storm aims to be there to catch people before they fall into a spiral of despair and help them back on their feet. Because the organisation receives no government funding SFTS can welcome guests purely on the basis of need and, in the seven years since it began, has helped thousands of people move on to permanent accommodation and employment.
It's hard to believe that skinny indie lad Graham Coxon is now in his forties, but there it is - and a brief glance at his CV will lessen the surprise somewhat: a career with Blur spanning 13 years and a massively adored solo performer since 1998. The multi-instrumentalist has produced a variety of albums and continues to be a solid and influential figure in modern British music.
