Philip Newcombe: ?nt??lu?d,

Behind the closed doors, a solitary speaker is placed on a wall, relaying a sound loop, turning the gallery into an active space; one in a constant state of flux. With its precise 35 second loop, this repetitive muzak frustrates any linear sense of time. Sourced from 'YouTube', this is a form of digital ready-made. When experienced, with its precise short loop, it kickstarts a slightly altered reaction each time. This familiar sound often used in elevators or spaces where people inhabit, or telephone systems (while the caller is on hold), becomes a provocateur within the empty space; an interlude or an interruption within the gallerys programme. A pause.

Newcombe's often dry outlook allows us to imagine spaces or objects through suggestion. ?nt??lu?d, (with its deliberate phonetic title), will run 24 hours a day between the 1st and 14th July. Although the gallery is closed during this time, it may be viewed from the outside corridor or from inside your head during shopping trips.
