A Super Happy Story (About Feeling Super Sad)

“Guys, you don’t have to worry – this is a happy story! It is SO happy. If it were a food it would be Skittles, if it were a day it would be Friday night, if it were a person it would be a really cute puppy! It is really, really, really happy. It’s got a happy ending, it’s got a happy middle, everything turns out OK and everyone lives happily ever after. This is a happy story. But it’s also one that’s about depression.”

Sally is a happy person. She doesn’t let little things get her down, she almost never cries, and she’s always the life and soul of any party. But she’s also got an illness – one that makes her feel like she isn’t the person she wants to be... but she doesn’t want anyone to know about it.

A Super Happy Story (About Feeling Super Sad) is a new show from Silent Uproar about mental illness, getting better, and our fear of what other people think. Written by Jon Brittain (Margaret Thatcher Queen of Soho, Rotterdam, What Would Spock Do?), and mixing elements of storytelling, live music and sketch comedy, it's a fun, silly and sad show for anyone who has a brain that hasn’t always been on their side.

The show has been made with support and help from Hull UK City of Culture 2017, New Diorama Theatre, Fruit, Greenwich Theatre, Hull Truck Theatre, City Health Care Partnership Foundation, Arts Council England and Hull City Council.
