Tango 44 presents a programme of passionate vocal and instrumental tango from Argentina's golden age and its contemporary exemplar - Astor Piazzolla. Tango is passion, tango is nostalgia, tango is the allure of Buenos Aires; the danger of porteño knife fights, of broken hearts, and of the dance that exemplifies it. Tango came of age as a worldwide phenomenon in the person of one extraordinary man:Astor Piazzolla. Initially an outcast from his homeland, Piazzolla blended New York jazz, Argentine música folclórica and tango, creating Tango Nuevo – a new style of dance music to which people had to sit and listen! With his death in 1992 a tidal wave of Latin passion was unleashed, sweeping the world as converts were drawn into the power and lyricism of his unforgettable music. Tango 44 offers a powerful presentation of Piazzolla's vocal and instrumental music alongside traditional tangos from Argentina's Golden Age.
