You won’t encounter a fresher delivery of the American old-time stringband style than comes from this upbeat trio who first took New York by storm…and still have their base and an impressive following there.

Named after a 19th century washboard manufacturer (and pronounced double-handy), this is the resident band at the legendary Jalopy Theatre – The Coen Brothers’ favourite haunt - in Brooklyn.

Last year, they featured in top New York entertainments magazine, Village Voice’s Best of 2014 list – a major accolade for this highly-entertaining ensemble.

There’s a hugely-appealing rhythmic groove to the songs and tunes and many are saying their approach was exactly what was required to bring this earthy Appalachian style to a younger 21st century audience.

The UK got its first introduction to the percussive and multi-instrumentalist genius of Brian Geltner when he toured with The Wiyos, and we were introduced to the clawhammer banjo flair and voice of talented sidekick Hilary Hawke when they released their debut album, Up Like The Clouds, to widespread acclaim. Hilary is also well-known as a member of the hot North Carolina all-girl old-time outfit, The Locust Honey Stringband. Completing the line up on guitar and vocals is stylish finger-picker Wyndham Baird.
