Property Guardian

Property Guardian was developed during the winter of 2014/15 while Alex Frost was recipient of the Phynance Residency. During his tenancy he made and developed a body of new mixed media sculptures and drawings that use and manipulate motifs relating to the home and domesticity. A reflexive exercise, these works have been made whilst living and working in a home, gallery and archive and directly reference this very particular situation. In addition to being a response to the house these works have been developed from investigations into the role of artists within a community, more specifically Peckham, and the way that the living conditions of artists have been politicised through the current culture of property speculation, focusing in particular on property guardianship programmes. This work has not been made at a critical distance but from a more conflicted position.
