Crystal Palace Garden Party: The Blockheads + The Dualers + Dogstand + The Secret Police + Blackwell
An amazing fun day festival in the Park headlined by the BLOCKHEADS. An amazingly tight band - the Blockheads who despite the loss of Ian Dury (their charismatic lead singer who lost his fight with cancer in 2000) are still keeping the flame of their clever tunes and terrific funked up rock well and truly alive. All the classics are in there: Reasons to Be Cheerful, Hit Me with your Rhythm Stick, Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll, What a Waste and many more...
As well as this Support from local sensation 'The DUALERS' who at last get to perform outdoors in their own back yard. further terrific support entertainment in the form of local bands that are really making it, such as Van Susans (getting Radio 2 and BBC 6 airplay) as well as Dogstand (also getting Radio 2 airplay) plus the great songsmith BLACKWELL and then we have a simply scintillating POLICE Tribute band in the form of 'Secret Police' more to be added AND THEN we have Clowns and stilt walkers and food and beer and wine and comedy and a FUNFAIR whew!
Formed in 1977 to promote Ian Dury's album New Boots and Panties on the first Stiff Records tour of the UK. The Blockheads are fronted by Derek 'The Draw' Hussey, who was Ian's best friend and is now the band's vocalist and wordsmith. Chaz Jankel, Norman Watt-Roy, John Turnbull and Mick Gallagher still remain from the original band and the current line-up is augmented by John Roberts on drums and a rolling line up of saxophonists including Gilad Atzmon, Terry Edwards or Dave Lewis. These legendary Brit-Funkers will be playing all the old favourites and new material.
