Seven years ago, London-based Spearmint played a ‘Spearmint Jukebox’ gig comprised purely of songs voted for by the fans. This November, the band will repeat the show – you can vote for the songs you’d most like to hear on Spearmint’s website.
The band will be joined onstage by longtime friends, the wonderful Open Up, featuring Toby Carter (co-writer of several Spearmint favourites).
Spearmint still features their original line-up of Shirley, Si, Jim & Ronan, plus long-term collaborator Rhodri Marsden (Scritti Politti). Following last year’s acclaimed album ‘This Candle Is For You’ (one of Mojo’s albums of the year), Spearmint will play songs from across their albums at this gig, as selected by the audience.
If you’re new to the band, this is the perfect place to start!
Emerging from the ashes of Laverne & Shirley in 1995, Spearmint are a band playing 'fantastic, gigantic, day-glo pop, exploding into effervescent DIY disco' (Melody Maker). Their Northern Soul-sampling track 'Sweeping The Nation' has been the staple of many Indie-pop discos.
