Awake The Psaltery And Harp: 20th Century Choral Masterpieces: Lewisham Choral Society, Nico De Villiers, Dan Ludford-Thomas

"Programme: 2 works by leading choral composer, Eric Whitacre. Cloudburst tells of the arrival of longed-for desert rain, with an atmospheric blend of voice, piano, bells, thundersheets and finger snaps. In the profoundly moving When David Heard, King David mourns the death of his son, Absolom.

Janáek's Otce Náš has a haunting organ and harp accompaniment. Leonard Bernstein too uses harp, percussion, solo and choral voices in Chichester Psalms, sung in Hebrew. In characteristic style, Bernstein combines lyrical beauty with punchy rhythm. Plus Hommages for solo piano by John Carmichael."
