Texas singer-songwriter who, back in the mid-1980s, was at the vanguard of a new school of songwriting in Nashville. While typically associated with the country genre, Lyle Lovett's albums typically incorporate folk, swing, blues, jazz and gospel music as well as more traditional country styling.

John Hiatt & The Goners
American guitarist and singer John Hiatt, who has been performing his rhythm and blues influenced country-rock since the early seventies. Thirty years on and eleven Grammy nominations later, he's still going strong and is considered to be one of the foremost American songwriters of his generation.

Texan country musician James Ely, who has been making honky-tonk and blues-inspired music since the early seventies. He started out with country group The Flatlanders and has since had a successful solo career, has written for film and performed with the likes of Bruce Springsteen, The Clash and James McMurtry.
