Minute Bodies: The Intimate World Of F. Percy Smith

Revered English band Tindersticks returns to the Barbican with a new live cine-event. They present their latest film and music project as part of the Barbican’s Film in Focus series of world-class arts and learning projects that celebrate the medium of film throughout 2017.

Minute Bodies: The Intimate World of F. Percy Smith is a meditative and immersive film, paying tribute to the astonishing work and achievements of naturalist, inventor and pioneering filmmaker F. Percy Smith. Directed by Stuart A. Staples, Minute Bodies is an interpretative edit that combines Smith's original footage with a new contemporary musical score by Tindersticks created from a loose collective of invited musicians including Thomas Belhom and Christine Ott. The result is a hypnotic, alien yet familiar dreamscape that connects audiences to the sense of wonder Smith must have felt as he peered through his own lenses, experiencing new micro-worlds for the first time.

This Barbican performance features a screening of Minute Bodies, with the soundtrack played live by Tindersticks in the first half of the evening, followed by a set of Tindersticks songs in the second half.
