Songlines Music Awards 2016 Winners' Concert
Leading world music magazine Songlines' annual Music Awards – launched in 2008 – celebrate and acknowledge the myriad of musical talents across the world and winners are announced today (further information here). The Barbican is pleased to host this years’ Songlines Music Awards Winners’ Concert again, following sold-out shows in 2012 and 2013.
Featured artists in this special live concert will include Portuguese fado star Mariza – winner of Best Artist (for her Parlophone album Mundo) – and Indian classical musician Debashish Bhattacharya – winner of the Asia & South Pacific category (for the album Slide Guitar Ragas from Dusk Till Dawn on Riverboat Records), with more artists to be announced.
Votes for the Songlines Music Awards came in from Songlines readers, contributors and the general public. There are nine categories in total, including Best Artist and Best Group, five new geographical categories based on the CD reviews sections in Songlines magazine, as well as Newcomer and World Pioneer Awards.
