Suite for Ma Dukes
In the 10th anniversary year of his untimely death, the music of the late American record producer and rapper James Dewitt Yancey, or better known by his stage name J Dilla, is reinvented in this special Barbican EFG London Jazz Festival date as a revelationary statement from one of the key figures in today’s musical hothouse – LA-based composer, arranger, producer and instrumentalist, the multi-talented Miguel Atwood-Ferguson.
He is joined by Carlos Niño, co-producer on the original live dates and recording, and a 17-piece ensemble to pay tribute to Dilla by interpreting his music as a radical take on contemporary chamber music. Niño’s own touring band plays an opening set to complete a very special occasion.
