Convergence

Founding member of Ash Ra Tempel, the composer and musician Manuel Göttsching, revisits and reworks landmark pieces from his career for Convergence 2017.

The first half sees a rare solo performance of the enormously influential 1984 album E2-E4 from Göttsching himself. Exemplifying the Krautrock sound while also prefiguring the rise of House and Techno, E2-E4 revolves around a simple two chord synthesizer pattern and Göttsching’s astral keyboard and guitar improvisations.

For the second half the concert, Göttsching is joined by Ariel Pink(vocals and bass), Oren Ambarchi (drums) and Shags Chamberlain (keys and synthesizer) for a performance by The Ash Ra Tempel Experience, performing original titles from the Ash Ra Tempel albums Schwingungen and Seven Up (both from 1972). The Ash Ra Tempel Experience with this line-up first performed in Melbourne in 2015, and a live album of this concert is planned for early 2017.
