Shakespeare 400

Gianandrea Noseda is back for the final concert of a series marking the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, and exploring music inspired by his writing.

Janine Jansen, an energetic and authoritative violinist with an enviable international reputation, performs Shostakovich’s heroic Violin Concerto No 2, the last concerto he ever composed and one of his most moving works.

Berlioz’s Romeo and Juliet – Suite was his greatest and most daring symphony requiring a large orchestra, choir, and three soloists; it was described by Wagner as a work of ‘pure genius’.
