A Fond Farewell - A Tribute To Elliott Smith

In October 2003 the rock world lost one of its greatest and most respected songwriters, Elliott Smith.
Former co-frontman of Portland's Heatmiser, Smith had released five critically acclaimed and increasingly successful albums and had been nominated for an Oscar for his song 'Miss Misery' from the Good Will Hunting soundtrack.

His work - often fragile and filled with tales of love, hurt, revenge and oblivion - had inspired complete adoration from fans all over the world and, with his previous struggles with drugs and alcohol seemingly behind him, he was close to completing a new album. The album would never be fully completed as Smith passed on October 21st 2003.

To this day fans clutch his memory and his music to their hearts and every year fans and musicians all over the world come together to remember Elliott.

These shows are about more than the names on the poster - they are about fans connecting, playing and singing and paying tribute to a true genius whilst raising money for great charities.

At this year's London tribute at the Windmill, the artists on the bill will be raising money for the mental health charity MIND.
