Placido Domingo's Operalia - Competition Final
For the first time this summer Plácido Domingo’s major international singing
competition, Operalia, which is proudly presented by Rolex will be hosted by
the Royal Opera House. Actively present throughout, Plácido Domingo will
conduct the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House for the Gala Concert that
marks the Final Round of the Competition.
Each year, 40 singers from across the world are selected to compete in front of an international jury of leading opera professionals. Since its founding in 1993, the competition has helped discover and promote artists of the calibre of Angel Blue, Joseph Calleja, José Cura, Joyce DiDonato, Carmen
Giannattasio, Ana María Martínez, Ailyn Pérez, Erwin Schrott, Nina
Stemme, Rolando Villazón and Sonya Yoncheva.
The first British winner is contralto Claudia Huckle, who was awarded the 2013 Birgit Nilsson Prize.
