Converse Gigs: Palma Violets + Splashh + MT
The Converse and 100 Club curated music series kicked off in June of 2011 when Graham Coxon headlined and played the first packed out show, since then the likes of Gorillaz Sound System, The Rapture, The Vaccines, Enter Shikari, Ghostpoet, Azari & III and many more have taken to the stage. Cementing the success of this unique partnership, Converse and 100 Club continue to deliver an exciting line-up for fans, showcasing today’s best and freshest emerging artists. The partnership also gives 100 Club the opportunity to introduce a new generation to its renowned gigs, by once again bringing the best music to its legendary stage. 100 Club will continue to oversee the schedule of performances as it has for over 65 years, in addition to presenting this new free series alongside Converse.
Tickets are free and will be available exclusively via the Converse UK website www.converse.co.uk
For a long time if you wanted to hear the most exciting new band in Britain, you knocked on a tall black door off the Lambeth Road. An aging British Rail building - part art studio happening, part squat – Studio 180 was where south London's Palma Violets were gestating, away from sunlight and the world at large. A thrilling rock'n'roll four piece, from September 2011 they were holed-up here writing songs "their friends could dance to" and occasionally putting on celebratory, ecstatic parties about which word quickly spread. Palma Violets are Sam Fryer (vocals/guitar), Chilli Jesson (vocals/bass), Pete Mayhew (keyboard) and Will Doyle (drums), playing energetic, crooning garage rock with a dreamy, psychedelic edge.
Palma Violets tour dates
Formed in early 2012 after New Zealand-born frontman Sasha Carlson and Australian guitarist Toto Vivian left the shores of the Southern Hemisphere for the grey skies of East London, they immediately turned heads with their distinctive sound - a tropical, tripped out take on swirling psych-garage, doused with insouciance, vitamin D and dizzying kaleidoscopics.
Joined by Englishman Tom Beal on bass, they completed their line-up in a move typical of the band’s spontaneous, carefree attitude, flying Jacob Moore over from Auckland just days before their first gig. Since then, they’ve gone from strength to strength, gaining a cult following off the back of their incendiary live shows whilst consistently pushing things forward with a series of acclaimed singles.
12 months on from their unassuming inception, Splashh are ready to shake off their underdog status, with the help of their debut album Comfort. Entirely self-produced and made within the confines of their bedrooms, it’s DIY to its very core; a record that proves sometimes raw talent - not fancy studios or big name producers - is all you really need.
