***Please note that Yasiin Bey, aka Mos Def, is no longer performing at the event as originally advertised. He has been replaced by Talib Kweli.***
An event in tribute to the chart topping revolutionary artist, poet and civil rights activist, Gil Scott Heron.
Featuring Talib Kweli, plus legendary UK Reggae band Aswad, local chart toppers The Christians, poet and protégé of Gil’s Malik & the O.G's plus Sophia Ben-Yousef and much more.
Gil’s son Rumal Rackley and non-other than Ndaba Mandela, grandson of the late great Nelson Mandela, will be guest of honours whilst a DJ set from BBC Radio 6’s Craig Charles completes an unforgettable night.
The Revolution Will Be Live is commissioned by Liverpool International Music Festival 2015.
There aren't many hip-hop artists that have made as awesome impact in as short a time as Talib Kweli, who's career has grown out of the fertile underground scene. His music is accessible and yet still manages to maintain thick streaks of independence and integrity - raw yet radio friendly. It's a tough balance to achieve, but he's managed it admirably.

After two decades on the music scene and fifteen albums under their belts, 'The Lions of Ladbroke Grove' remain one of the country's best loved reggae bands. Formed in the late seventies their early hits include "Warrior Charge" and "Three Babylon", which established the band with a massive following culminating in a UK number one hit "Don't Turn Around" in 1988. The band continued their assault on the UK pop charts with tracks such as "Shine", "Shy Guy", amongst many more.
