John Adams’ Short Ride in a Fast Machine is a sonic riot at a rhythmical carnival - it blew the roof off the Royal Albert Hall at the BBC Proms 2014. And looking up is where you need to be. New York’s skyline is the perfect accompaniment to Gershwin’s fabulously jazzy ‘Skyscraper Concerto’ performed this afternoon by Julian Joseph, a leading figure on the international jazz scene.
Everyone has their favourite bit of Holst’s The Planets, whether it’s the thundering rhythms of Mars or the majesty of Jupiter. But Holst’s masterpiece isn’t just about great tunes. This afternoon, James Feddeck takes us to infinity and beyond, and joins two American masters on their own voyages to new worlds.
This event takes place at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, which has achieved Bronze Status for disabled access from Attitude Is Everything.
