The audiences have said they love Haydn’s symphonies: tonight, enjoy his first and his last (104th!), and appreciate with the LMO the development of his talent across 36 years, from 1759 to 1795, a period when the world around him was also changing dramatically. Between the two symphonies, we showcase the double bass! Come and hear – and see – what a versatile solo instrument it is in the hands of a maestro, former Academy of St Martin in the Fields principal bass, Leon Bosch.
Tonight sees a première performance of a recently discovered classical concerto by Haydn’s contemporary, Franz Keyper. And in our own era, Leon’s colleague and friend Allan Stephenson, originally from the Wirral, has composed a charmingly melodic concerto especially for Leon, which we will love to perform especially for you too. A unique programme – don’t miss it!
