David Newton, David Newton's 'Big Screen Trio'

The fact that David Newton has been the winner of 'Jazz Pianist of the Year' in the British Jazz Awards on no less than 10 occasions simply confirms most fans' opinion that he really is one of the heavyweights of UK jazz. A consummate pianist, composer, arranger and accompanist. He dazzles and delights with his up-tempo numbers, displays great sophistication on carefully crafted ballads and boy, can this guy swing?! This new group the 'Big Screen Trio' features David Newton on the piano, Matt Skelton on the drums, and Tom Farmer on the double bass. They launched their first album (Volume 1) at the Pizza Express, Dean Street, in April and it features, as you would guess, music from the movies, some well known, some not so well known and even some downright obscure!
