Picasso, His Life And Loves
Flamenco Dance theatre company Cancion Gitana have created a unique biography of the long, extraordinary, life of this remarkable artist.
Probably Pablo Ruiz Picasso is the most well recognised artist of the 20th century if not of the art of the last millenium. His personal image, his face, is ubiquitous becoming his brand with those dark piercing eyes, his prolific career as an important artist spans over 8 decades, his enthusiastic involvement in modernism, in all of the confused and confusing artistic trends of the 20th century, trends he often led, his pink period, blue period, cubism, surrealism, his equal facility in painting, sculpture, pottery and ceramics are that of a true Renaissance man and last, but not least, the complexity of his many, many, often damaging, relationships with women as muses, models, lovers and wives who all had deep influences on his work. As often as he abruptly cast aside his women his art changed equally radically, a great artist but an honourable man.
Picasso, his life and loves was created and choreographed by the highly respected Flamenco dancer Helena “La Leyenda” (Sadlers Wells, BBC TV, Channel 4, etc, etc) , the 110 minute, 2 act, spectacular features an international company of 7 dancers, guitarist, singer and narrator comprising Principal dancer Helena, dancers Varina, Mirela, Nancy, Clara and Natsuki, recorded poetry performed by Lorca specialist Madrid’s Rosario Serrano (Ballet Rambert, Duende Flamenco Company, BBC2 TV, etc etc ) the ethereal voice of legendary cante jondo singer Fernando Reyes and the passionate Flamenco guitar of Tomas de Cordoba. With multiple costume changes, film, images, dramatic lighting, it’s a Flamenco spectacular!
