It's a joy to bring Blue Orchids to The Foxlowe Arts Centre.
On his departure from The Fall in 1979 Martin Bramah formed Blue Orchids and set on his devotion to quietly craft a trove of psychedelic visions unparalleled among musicians of his generation.
Despite never quite cracking mainstream public consciousness, Blue Orchids endure as a living treasures of head music for post-punks, John Peel acolytes and connoisseurs of the late 20th century Manchester music hall of fame.
Bramah has remained at the helm, surviving decades and numerous personnel changes. The current line-up comprises of Martin Bramah, John Paul Moran, De Selby Lewis, Howard Jones and Tansy McNally.
Manchester's legendary Blue Orchids are back! Christened the Blue Orchids by John Cooper Clarke, they formed in 1979 when Martin Bramah left The Fall after recording the debut album Live At The Witch Trials. They signed to Rough Trade Records in 1980 and were championed by the late great John Peel, before touring with Echo & The Bunnymen and then The Velvet Underground's Nico, serving as both backing group and support act. Over the years Blue Orchids have included in their line up members of The Smiths, The Durutti Column, The Fall and Buzzcocks. Martin Bramah reformed the band in 2012 for John Peel Day events in London, Liverpool and Manchester and it's the classic Rough Trade era recordings that the band is now playing at their live shows, to great acclaim. 'It's been great to breathe new life into these songs again after so long - they're sounding so fresh and original, I could have written them all yesterday!' - Martin Bramah
