Monday 12 March - Saturday 16 June

Explore an overlooked area of the poet and playwright, Tony Harrison's work.

Tony Harrison is Britain's leading poet-playwright. Over 50 years, he has been responsible for major innovations in theatrical practice. He has translated classical drama for modern day audiences and created site-specific performances.

Theatre is an often overlooked area of Harrison's work. He has worked with key figures in theatre to produce work with his distinctive poetic voice. He has been a writer, director, set designer and occasional clog dancer.

This exhibition uses material from Harrison’s literary archive in Special Collections. Explore Harrison's development through unique images, notebooks and drafts. Track Harrison's progress from his earliest beginnings as part of Leeds University Rag, to triumphs at the National and beyond.

On the 1st June join us for the third annual Sheppard Memorial lecture. The event will celebrate Harrison's work in theatre. It will include readings and performance from Tony himself.

Please note the Gallery is closed for Easter Monday and the May Bank Holidays.
