Glastonwick 2013: Thee Faction + Rebel Control + Merry Hell + Laura Taylor + David Rovics + Peter And The Test Tube Babies + Louise Distras + Rough Chowder + Grace Petrie + Gob Dylan + Wayne Lostsoul + Attila The Stockbroker
For the 18th consecutive year, and the 7th at the fabulous rural location of Coombes, this popular festival will again bring sleepy Sussex to life in 2013.
As usual, the event is organised by the founders of Glastonwick - namely legendary local punk poet and musician Attila the Stockbroker and international cask beer advocate Alex Hall, with a little help from their friends.
The weekend promises enormous quantities of delicious real ale (including many new brews), farmhouse cider, perry, and top quality entertainment.
Frequent trains run to Shoreham from Brighton, Worthing (both only 10 minutes away by train) and other stations along the West Coastway Line. From there, jump on the special shuttle bus linking the festival with Shoreham Railway Station and The Duke of Wellington (plus one daily journey each way from Brighton - except Friday when the outward trip starts at Portslade to avoid rush hour traffic for timekeeping purposes).
Camping is offered on site for only £5 per night. Note you MUST book in advance for Friday and Saturday if you wish to camp on site.
See www.cask-ale.co.uk/beerfestival.html for further information.
Thee Faction create blistering, unpleasant socialist R&B with an explicit political agenda. They built up a massive following by playing squat gigs and benefits, eschewing more conventional venues.
Thee Faction tour dates
Rebel Control's sound has organically grown from its reggae roots to include elements of dancehall and hip hop. Standby for massive hook laden- bass heavy beats topped with blazing horns and a lyrically conscious vocalist effortlessly switching styles from the sweet and soulful to the ruff and raw.
Rebel Control tour dates
Award winning folk-rock. From the anthemic to the intimate - a joyous explosion of passion & melody. Music made by the people and shared by the people. With hearts and souls tuned to the songs which came before them, Merry Hell bring you new words and music forged from their own experiences, from the lows and the loves of their lives.
Merry Hell tour dates
Laura is a dedicated shirker, but she does get out to drink beer, dance in fields, and shout at strangers from a stage now and then. Her poems, which have been published in several anthologies, are rebellious and radical.
Laura Taylor tour dates
A wonderfully perceptive radical singer/songwriter from USA. 'Storysinger with a guitar... A great songwriter.' (Victory Music) He will make you laugh, he will make you cry, he will make the revolution irresistible.
David Rovics tour dates
Brighton's finest purveyors of anarchic punk rock since 1978. Responsible for the sense of humour held inside songs like Banned From The Pubs and Alien Pubduction.
Peter And The Test Tube Babies tour dates
Tipped as the voice of punk‘s next generation, Louise Distras plays a socially conscious and insightful brand of protest poetry that, in a spiritual sense, is also firmly descended from the Clash bloodline. Having released debut album ‘Dreams From the Factory Floor’ only this September, she is already gaining wide-spread acclaim, and was hailed by The Guardian as “putting punk and protest back into the mainstream”.
Louise Distras tour dates
Rough Chowder is an exciting six piece band from Sussex presenting a lively repertoire of traditional and revamped Cajun, Zydeco and Swamp Blues from the Bayou’s of Louisiana, together with a heady mix of rockabilly thrown in for good measure.
Rough Chowder tour dates
A great Leicester acoustic singer-songwriter, counting Billy Bragg amongst her fan base. She writes indie folk rock songs (a couple with an acoustic punk twist), plays the guitar and sings with a voice that has been described by listeners as similar to Laura Marling, Kate Nash and nothing you’ve ever heard before.
Grace Petrie tour dates
An acoustic folk punk singer. His songs weave together elements of blues, country, folk, punk and rock n roll to create something entirely new and unique but with melodies that will stay in your head for years to come.
Wayne Lostsoul tour dates
Attila is a sharp-tongued, high energy, social surrealist rebel poet and songwriter. His themes are topical, his words hard-hitting, his politics unashamedly radical, but Attila will make you roar with laughter as well as seethe with anger.
'Whether he's ranting a poem or bashing out a song, there is something magnificent about Attila in full flight' (Ian McMillan BBC Radio 4).
