Bringing together poetry and music in an original collaboration, the acclaimed poet, songwriter and East Anglian Daily Times columnist Martin Newell will read some of his poetry accompanied by original music composed and played by The Hosepipe Band.
The programme will start with The Jigsaw Coast, a collection of shorter poems which focus on events and places in East Anglia which have meant something to Martin during the time he has lived in the area.
The second half will include songs from Martin and tunes from the Hosepipe Band as well as The Green Children, a longer epic poem which tells the story of two children of “unusual skin colour” who reportedly appeared in the village of Woolpit in Suffolk in the 12th century.
The Hosepipe Band’s line-up is:
Cara Bruns – keyboards
Simon Haines – concertina, melodeon, hurdy gurdy, footbass, bandoneon
Peter Nice – upright bass, electric guitar
Val Woollard – bagpipes, recorder, flute, saxophone, bells, dulcimer
