Sir Charles Raymond And The Local Community

Sir Charles Raymond, who lived at the Mansion from 1754 to 1778, was born almost exactly 300 years ago and made his fortune as a captain with the East India Company. He retired from the sea in 1747 and lived in Ilford from 1754 until his death in 1788.

During this time several of his relatives and fellow captains with the East India Company came to live nearby, bringing wealth and prestige to our local community. Georgina Green has been researching her subject for over ten years and the talk will include new information which she has recently discovered.
