Ampleforth Chamber Ensemble

The programme will consist of Janacek’s rarely hear violin sonata, and music by Stravinsky and Martinu. The second half will be entirely devoted to Messiaen’s ’Quartet for the End of Time’, composed whilst interned in a Prisoner of War Camp in 1941 in Gorlitz, Silesia, where it received its premiere in front of over 400 inmates.

This performance is given almost exactly 70 years after the end of 2nd World War, and acts a poignant reminder of those difficult years, through redemption and reconciliation rather than emphasising the horrific events of the time.
