Einstein’s Universe

Unravel the complexities of the universe in a special crossover event that marries music and literature to celebrate Harrogate International Festival’s heritage as a Festival of Arts and Science.

Einstein, the world’s foremost physicist who developed general relativity – the most beautiful theory ever formulated – turned to another virtuoso for solace and inspiration: Mozart. A violin player and devotee, Einstein saw his life ‘in terms of music.’

In this duo of events, Professor Brian Foster delivers an afternoon lecture on Einstein’s musical love, with sketches by violinist and former Festival Young Musician, Jack Liebeck. An evening recital sees Jack, one of Britain’s most compelling young musicians, joined by renowned pianist Katya Apekisheva, playing works connected to Einstein’s genius.
