I Witness Exhibition
Five years after a catastrophic earthquake hit Haiti killing an estimated 220,000 people, and causing over 1.5 million people to lose their homes, Gloucester Cathedral will host an exhibition reflecting the hope and resilience of Haitians.
Christian Aid supporters from across the region rallied behind an appeal allowing the charity to direct £14 million towards the country’s reconstruction and reach 180,000 people affected by the disaster.
Following emergency relief work carried out by Christian Aid partner organisations the focus shifted to longer-term reconstruction, training masons to safely repair houses and building earthquake-resistant homes in affected communities.
Throughout May, people across Gloucestershire will have the opportunity to visit I Witness a free exhibition of artwork and photographs depicting some of the projects and reflecting the determination of Haitians to pick up their lives. Running from May 1-31 the exhibition will be formally launched with a special Evensong and reception on Wednesday May 6.
