Charlie Sonata

Can this be right?
Is he really going to do this?
He is not sure. Chick counts to three before he opens the door…

Chick is lost. Lost in drink and lost in life, broken, beaten and down on his luck. But he’s the bearer of a beautiful soul.

Heading back to Scotland for a reunion with his old mates Gary and Jackson, Chick arrives to discover Gary’s daughter Audrey has been in a terrible car accident. She is in a coma in hospital, her parents at her side. Is it just Chick, or does she look like something from a fairy tale, hair flared dramatically over the white sheets?

There begins a story of reconciliation and redemption as Charlie embarks on a quest across the city to find the one thing that might save Audrey. It’s a journey involving drink (lots), ballerinas, soft play centres and, like all good tales, an extraordinary apotheosis.

Charlie Sonata is a tender and funny new play by Douglas Maxwell, writer of Yer Granny, Fever Dream: Southside and Mancub.
