SLOTH METROPOLIS is a musical mythology & ongoing sloth-themed rock opera told in prog, psych, folk, heavy riffs and paper mache. When entering Sloth Metropolis, you will encounter duelling distorted electric-violin & keyboard solos, dramatic twisting song structures and sharp narrative lyrics. You will also encounter the Sloth... The debut album, ‘The Sloth Cycle (Volume 1)’, introduced us to the Sloth of the Metropolis as he woke up and explored the city. In the EP ‘Move’, the Sloth was forced to go flat hunting, but found a mysterious manuscript whilst clearing out his old house. In ‘Origins’, he opened up the manuscript and read the story of Aengus Rudach—an Alchemist from the 17th century who sailed to a mysterious island in the Atlantic after being exiled for witchcraft. Whilst putting together an experiment aiming to create human perfection, Aengus instead found himself transformed into a blissfully static sloth. In their upcoming album ‘Humanise’ (set for release in 2020 on London prog label Bad Elephant Music), Sloth Metropolis turn the pages of the manuscript again, drawing on its spells and rituals. Perhaps with these occult secrets, the Sloth will finally transcend to humanhood... The story of the Sloth is vividly brought to life in the band’s performances through drama, audience interaction, props and costumes. Sloth Metropolis have brought these musical rituals to festivals across Scotland and England including Doune the Rabbit Hole, Belladrum Tartan Heart, Celtic Connections and Sonic Rock Solstice and have shared the stage with touring bands such as Earthless, Flamingods and Sleepy Sun. “They deliver on some hearty, unusual, technically impressive and diverse music...Sloth Metropolis provides a healthy dose of something different and is commendable in that.” – Ravechild
