Derek Nash Quartet, Martin Shaw

Jazz saxophonist Derek Nash is a member of Jools Holland’s Rhythm and Blues Orchestra, has led Sax Appeal for 40 years, is a founder member of the Ronnie Scott’s Blues Explosion and has been regularly nominated in the British Jazz Awards. He is renowned for his energetic, vibrant, passionate and charismatic performances on all four saxophones - from sonorous baritone to soaring soprano - and is an award-winning performer having received the John Dankworth Award and Best Jazz CD of the Year, regularly appearing in the British Jazz awards nominations and was nominated for Jazz Musician of the Year by the Global Music Foundation. Derek’s Quartet’s 2012 CD ‘Joyriding’ was awarded Best CD of the Year in the British Jazz Awards.

The band will be performing music from their latest release, ‘Down on Frenchmen St.’. Named after the new centre of jazz in New Orleans, the album is full of infectious rhythms and lyrical melodies, with nods to Derek's jazz roots – from Blue Note and samba to Mulliganesque counterpoint. The band also features multi award-winning pianist, David Newton, and Sebastiaan de Krom on drums, who has been the bedrock of performances from Michel Legrand to Jamie Cullum. Joining them will be star trumpeter, Martin Shaw (Incognito, BBC Big Band) who also features on the quartet’s latest album.
