About Woman In A Dressing Gown
Amy (Yvonne Mitchell) and her husband John (Anthony Quayle) are always arguing over Amy's domestic limitations. John wants a model wife, glamorous and capable; Amy is so busy trying to get everything done that she lives in her dressing gown. Their flat is messy, chaotic and too small as Amy floats around in a depressed haze. John desires escape and a different life, so he begins an affair with his beautiful co-worker Georgie (Sylvia Sims) who represents all that he can't have. Amy knows that she's not perfect, but is still shocked when she finds out about John's betrayal. While their son Brian (Andrew Ray) reacts angrily, Amy is devastated and the film's resolution shows the sparse options available to people in those situations in the '50s.
