About We Steal Secrets: The Story Of WikiLeaks
In 2006, an Iceland-based group called The Sunshine Press launched the website WikiLeaks.org. Commandeered by Australian web activist Julian Assange, the site aimed to regularly publish sensitive documents and covert data. The information often pertained to governments and military operations and this documentary explores the debate about the security of our institutions and the moral implications of leaking such valuable secrets. Two key figures emerge at the centre of the saga: Assange and Bradley Manning, a U.S army intelligence specialist who gave WikiLeaks information about the war in Iraq. Their presence is felt via news footage rather than direct interviews, but the opinions of their supporters and detractors, along with their legal battles and deconstruction of their characters by the media, add another layer to the story.
