About Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy
Set at the height of the Cold War, this spy thriller is based on the novel by John le Carré. Gary Oldman plays George Smiley, a retired spy who is forced back into action when it becomes known that there is a Soviet agent working in the upper reaches of MI6. There are five suspects, and Smiley must root out the culprit before more agents are murdered. He has the assistance of fellow spy Peter Guillam (Benedict Cumberbatch), but can he afford to trust anyone? A stylish tale of deceit and mistrust, this is also a veritable festival of attractive British talent, with debonair stars of all ages including Cumberbatch, Tom Hardy, Mark Strong and Colin Firth in dapper '70s suits and dodgy haircuts. 'Let The Right One In' director Tomas Alfredson brings his gritty subdued visual style to both exotic locations (Istanbul) and the retro interiors of MI6.
