About The Way, Way Back

Another dysfunctional family drama in sunny surroundings from the writers of The Descendants. Duncan (Liam James) is a shy, insecure fourteen-year-old on holiday with his recently divorced mother Pam (Toni Collette). They have been invited to stay at a summer cottage on the New England shoreline by Pam's obnoxious new boyfriend Trent (Steve Carrell). Pam and Trent use the holiday as an excuse to booze it up all day long with their friends and Duncan feels neglected, especially as he can't seem to get along with Trent's daughter (Zoe Levin). Instead, Duncan gets a job at the local water park and finds a new family amongst the employees including jovial, immature boss Owen (Sam Rockwell).
