About The Railway Man

Drama based on a true story. Former soldier Eric Lomax (Colin Firth) meets the elegant Patti (Nicole Kidman) on a train to Edinburgh in the 1980s. He is fond of the railway, having worked as a signals engineer during the Second World War. However, he was also captured by the Japanese in 1942 and forced to work on the 'Death Railway' in Thailand. Patti can sense his pain but although he receives some support from his best friend (Stellan Skarsgard), Eric is still haunted by his experiences. He and Patti marry and she eventually learns about his past. Through flashbacks we see how the young Eric (Jeremy Irvine) was tormented during captivity, and in the present he finds a chance to confront one of the men who made his life hell.
