About The Queen Of Versailles

In a global recession, why would you want to watch a documentary about a fabulously wealthy businessman? To see his dreams crumble around him, of course. Billionaire David Siegel made his fortune from time shares and has the obligatory ditzy trophy wife Jackie, eight children and many small dogs. In 2003, he and Jackie had plans to build the largest private home in America: a 90,000 square foot replica of the palace of Versailles, complete with sushi bar, bowling alley and 19 bathrooms. By 2008 David's business was struggling with the economic downturn and the family had to stay in their more modest 26,000 square foot mansion while production was halted on their dream home. The Siegels emerge as misguided, cranky and spoilt people who nevertheless are capable of bewilderment and suffering through the turn in their fortunes.
