About Met Opera: Tosca

Set in Rome in 1800, when Italy was threatened with invasion by Napoleon, Puccini's classic centres on a three-way battle-of-wills. An artist, an opera singer and a ruthless police chief all collide in this highly emotional opera - whose themes of intrigue and hypocrisy gain more relevance and power with each passing year. This new production is a collaboration between the Met Opera, the Bayerische Staatsoper and the Teatro alla Scala. Luc Bondy's absorbing new staging utilises the talents of a superb crew, including three-time Oscar-winning costume designer Milena Canonero (Barry Lyndon, Chariots of Fire). American soprano Patricia Racette plays the title role opposite tenor Roberto Alagna while George Gagnidze plays villainous police chief Scarpia.
