About The Deep
Based on a true story. Gulli (Olaf Darri Olafsson) is an ordinary, slightly overweight fisherman living with his family in one of Iceland's volcanic fishing villages during the '80s. He and his fellow crew members enjoy a drink or seven at their local rough and ready pub – fights break out and everybody feels a little tender the next morning but they head out on their boat as usual. Hungover but still competent they go about their daily tasks until the notoriously choppy waters capsize the vessel. Gulli and his friends cling to the hull but the freezing water means they only last mere minutes before succumbing to hypothermia. Soon Gulli is the sole survivor and he starts the formidable journey to shore with only his own thoughts and the one-sided conversation of a seagull for company.
