About The Artist
This black and white silent movie is a fond recreation of the era before the talkies took over. Set in Hollywood in 1927, it features inter-titles and a lively orchestral score. Movie star George Valentin (Jean Dujardin) is both heartthrob and action hero, followed everywhere by his Jack Russell and the press. Once the biggest star in the business, he begins to worry about his future as sound films become popular. He gives a break to young dancer Peppy Miller (Bérénice Bejo), and the two have a happy partnership at first, but Peppy eventually surpasses George and becomes a big name in her own right. It's not the most original story, but 'The Artist' has collected praise (and several Oscars) for its old-fashioned charm, emotive performances and dazzling cinematography.
