Emily (Rooney Mara) is a troubled young woman with a history of depression. Her life should be looking up as her inside trader husband Martin (Channing Tatum) is being released from prison. Their life is not as glamorous as it once was, but they still have each other. However, Martin's release is a catalyst for more unhealthy behaviour, and Emily is hospitalised after she drives her car head-on into a wall. She meets friendly, caring psychiatrist Dr. Banks (Jude Law) who convinces her to become his patient. After talking to Emily's previous therapist Dr. Siebert (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and trying some standard anti-depressants, Dr. Banks prescribes a new drug called Ablixa. Soon Emily experiences extreme paranoia – but is the cause her own nature or the medication?
