About Side By Side
A documentary about the history of digital and photochemical film. As more cinemas switch over to digital projection, film labs all over the world close and more and more directors shoot with digital cameras instead of celluloid. Keanu Reeves narrates this look at the past, present and future of filmmaking techniques, taking the viewer inside editing bays and onto sets as he interviews some of the world's greatest directors and film technicians on the possible death of traditional film. Newer masters like David Fincher and Christopher Nolan give their opinions alongside grand masters Martin Scorsese, Steven Soderbergh, George Lucas and James Cameron, and the film makes good use of clips to illustrate the differences between the old and new mediums. A must-watch for anyone wondering where the industry is heading, and what it could mean for this beloved artform.
