Image for Selma

A drama about the historic march from Selma to Montgomery that was one of the most pivotal moments in America's civil rights movement. In 1964, civil rights advocate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr (David Oyelowo) and his wife Coretta (Carmen Ejogo) travel to Norway where King's work is being rewarded with the Nobel Peace Prize. He later meets with President Lyndon B. Johnson (Tom Wilkinson) to discuss worrying reports that black people are being denied their right to register to vote. One such would-be voter, Annie Lee Jackson (Oprah Winfrey) finds herself tested at every turn. Across the country, thousands of ordinary people, both black and white, from all walks of life, battle for equal rights for all. King organises a protest march, but finds the journey beset by tensions that turn to senseless violence.
